Petri Racer

Traduction de Alphonse Khuu

The Petri Racer is released in France in 1967. The brand was present since the early 60s with the Petriflex Reflex, Prest and Seven compact cameras. While the headquarters of the brand are in Tokyo, some of the first ads are announcing "from Okinawa."

This Racer is a rangefinder with very bright viewfinder with framelines. The lens may be a 1.8 with 6 elements (!), or a 2.8 with 4 elements. A Cadmium sulphide cell monitors exposure. The window of this cell is visible just above the front of the lens.

The shutter allows shutter speeds from the second to 1/500 sec.

This camera can receive optical accessories screwing on the lens. These accessories were sold in pairs: a wide-angle (35mm) and a telephoto lens (65mm), accompanied by a viewfinder to be inserted in the accessory shoe.

A security device turns the cell on only if the camera is winding on the film. The aim is to save power of the mercury battery.

The electronic flash can be used at any shutter speed, but for a flash bulb, the shutter speed must be set at 1/30 sec.

In 1967, the 1.8 / 45mm variant was sold 750 francs, and with a 2.8 / 45mm, 620 francs. The optical accessories were sold 280 francs.
