Agfa Compact

Traduction de Manuel M

This camera appeared in Kina of 1980 under the name of Agfa Optima 935. It was a very innovating camera for Agfa, but it was also one of last Agfa manufacture in Germany.

Innovation? It was then the smallest compact 35 mm motorized It is bigger than Minox, but it has an integrated engine. This engine is used of course with advance and rewinding of film. To save space, it is placed in line with the receiving reel. The loading of film is facilitated; it is enough to present the band starts film in the slit of the receiving reel and to close the back. The engine advances film until the first exposure. Sensor release is soft, but release is felt very well. It is possible to achieve the rate of 2 pictures /second.

A master switch makes it possible to open the part of protection and to leave the target. It is the big cursor, visible on the right on the photograph, which makes it possible, moreover, to mask the sight when it is on “off”. When it is positioned on “one” (the white point), the protection shutter of the lens opens and the built-in motor in the lens extracts this one from its rest position.

Rewinding is motorized, but it is possible to disconnect it to leave film in darkroom in the event of breakdown batteriy.

The exposure is automatic and the measure is provided by a CdS cell.

The camera was sold with a specific flash coming to fix itself on the left side of the camera.

I do not know at which time the name did of “Optima 935” to “Compact”.
