Linhof is a German manufacturer well known for its medium format cameras. Its favorite models are  4 x 5 inches format cameras.

This unit is the smallest format developed by Linhof hence its name slightly pejorative "Baby Linhof". The word "Super" indicates the presence of a range finder incorporated in the device. The same camera exists without rangefinder and therefore loses its adjective "Super." Made over several decades, the model presented here, according to its serial number, date of mid 50s.

All Technika cameras are fitted with interchangeable lens. Each unit was sold with three lenses mounted on plates with focal lengths: 65 mm, 105 mm, 180 mm, corresponding to a wide angle, a standard lens  and a telephoto lens. An associated cam, calculated for each lens, allows the use of the rangefinder whatever is the lens used, at the condition this came is placed in the appropriate position.
To assist the operator using the rangefinder, a movable mask delimits the frame for the purposes of 105 or 180 mm focal lengths.

The shutter speed is set directly on the central shutter embedded in the lenses. Triggering occurs either by a lever on the optical group or using a dedicated cable release which has pins for locking ergonomically on the device.

The possibilities for tilt and shift, without reaching those provided by real monorail cameras are quite advanced. The front plate supporting the lens gradually permits vertical misalignment (by operating a small wheel) and a rear tilt (by actuating the chrome button in front of the lens stand). A front tilt is possible with a predetermined angle of about 20 ° by unlocking the front plate supporting the focusing rail.
The back is also equipped with a bellows which permits, after its release by four knurled knobs, tilting in all directions. The main advantage of this system is to allow the correction of perspectives for architectural photos.

When the unit is mounted on a tripod,, the rotary back makes it easy to move from horizontal to vertical framing. The ground glass back allows, using the T pose, to framing and focusing accurately. Once the settings are performed, the photographer can use the film holder frame that take the place of the ground glass.
For a freehand use, it is better to acquire a handle and an accessory back using roll films. They allow the realization of 8 format 120 views on a film.

In good condition, the unit is still wanted for the intrinsic quality of its manufacture and its pretty versatile possibilities as allowing a freehand use considering a weight which is still acceptable ...
