Chronology of cameras Leidolf

The Leidolf company in Wetzlar has produced cameras between 1949 and 1962 only. Despite the prestige of the place where it was established, its activity in this area was brief. McKeown guide nevertheless indicates a good thirty models and variations.

The Lordox 57 has experienced several versions with or without rangefinder. This one is without rangefinder, although a quick glance may suggest that it incorporates one. This model is sometimes called Junior; the version presented with black front plate, is considered rarer. It is close to the so-called Baby version of the Lordox , but has a more performing Prontor SVS shutter.

What is striking in this nice but also classic camera, , is the short film advance and cocking lever, the index must reach it at the right side on the front of the body and bring it backward two times to ensure winding and cocking.
The short lever allows a round trip fast enough, despite a  160 ° rotation needed which may explain its unusual position.
The trigger is on the lens but comes out well. Once pressed it remains depressed and goes back only after the second movement of the cocking lever.

The housing is opened by separation of the base and the back.
The lens, a Triplon with a 2.8 aperture seems to have been produced for the cameras of  the brand. There are only little information about it, except that it is a likely a triplet in three groups.
