Chronology of cameras Benevolo

This small camera was photographed during the Chelles fair. In the haste, its characteristics were not noted.

Bénévolo (Jean-Baptiste 1841-1913) was a mechanical engineer, a constructor of precision instruments in various fields: distillation (Ebullioscope), geometry, optics, etc. Depending on the type of device, the brass plate indicates either optician or mechanic.

In May 1892, a brief article in Le Progrès reads as follows:
A fire that, without the promptness of the rescue, could have had serious consequences, broke out yesterday morning at half-past nine, Passage de l'Hôtel-Dieu, 22.
On the second floor of this building is located the workshop of Mr. Benevolo, an optician in Place de la République. Around nine o'clock, Mr. Benevolo's worker left and went to his boss's store to sharpen lenses on a grindstone. Upon leaving, he closed the workshop door behind him. Half an hour later, he returned. As soon as he opened it, he received a thick puff of smoke in his face.
The fire had broken out during his absence, and the cause is unknown.
Mr. Benevolo's worker, along with Mr. Aucagne, a jeweler, and Mr. Tellière, a chocolatier, whose shops are located below, immediately sounded the alarm. They rushed to the telephone booth in Place de la République and alerted the general fire station.
Meanwhile, the fire was spreading, flames bursting through the window panes and licking the open sky of the passage.
A moment of panic occurred among the residents of the passage, but they were soon reassured by the arrival of the pumps from the general depot, under the command of Adjutant Vivier.
