Chronology of cameras Houghton
Houghton Butcher has made three cameras called May Fair, a box, a low cost folding (this one) and a more elaborate folding, the Super May Fair.
The item presented here is a camera with a non self erecting bellows. You must pull the bellows for sliding along a rails. A solid button serves as a handle for this operation. Notches on the side of the base of the lens / shutter support can block it in front of a graduated scale to set the focus distance (from 5 feet).
There are two apertures: 'Very bright' and 'Ordinary'! A tilting viewfinder and a double frame viewfinder (eye sliding on his back and folded metal frame to the front) allow shooting.
Cheeks (plates) supporting the film rolls are patented (English Pat No. 281802), are a special convenience:
• to put in place a film, you must raise the two plates, place the film roll, push down the plates, the closure of the back is closed blocks them automatically
• to remove a film roll: open the plates, then the roll, pushed by a spring goes out alone!
The front face, original, the finishes, the model name plate confirm the quality of this unit.
