Zeiss Ikon Simplex

This 1929 folding plate camera with a 9x12 format is, among the Zeiss Ikon plate using models, the low-priced version. It is only equipped with a brilliant finder for taking pictures at chest level, with no possible horizontal or vertical  movement. Still, certain models are equipped with a spirit level located right next to focusing scale. Of course, it’s also possible to use the ground glass viewscreen. Thus we can assume that this « simplex » did not revolutionize the industry of photography at that time.It made approaching plate photography possible without spending too much money, and with a camera upholding the Zeiss Ikon reputation.

The history of Simplex continued and several years later Zeiss Ikon reused this name for a bakelite folding camera.
