Leica R3 Mot Electronic

In 1976, at the Photokina show, Leica presented a model derived from the Minolta XE-1, but this model could not be motorized, which seemed anachronistic. On the other hand, this lack forced Leica  to keep marketing the Leica SL2 Mot..

Leica had to repair this mistake and it was during the Photokina 1978 that was presented the Leica R3 Mot to fill this gap.

It is designed to receive the R3 motor.
When modernizing, the self-timer disappeared. Some other details distinguish the two versions:
Reminder in the viewfinder of the measurement mode (by integration or selective)
Possibility of multiple exposures with the motor. On the first model the multiple exposure lever was reset in the initial position after the second exposure is made.

Motorization occurring shortly after the release of the Leica R3, the owners of this model could have their camera modified by Leitz.

The R3 motor (2 frames per second) integrates a grip improving the handling of the camera. It is powered by six AA batteries, or by NiCd rechargeable batteries or by an adapter connected to the main power supply. The body is still powered by its own batteries.
