Graflex National series I

Although small, this camera is a medium format 2 1/4 x 2 1/ 2 " , which corresponds to a 6 x 7 cm.

Using the usual 120 film , 10 exposures can thus be obtained.

The first one starts with the number 1 of the 6 x 9 views of the spool seen through the small window, on the side , it is necessary that , at the same time , the pointer of the rotary counter on the top is positioned in front of the the letter S .
We are almost ready to take the picture , almost , because we must then pull down the mirror with the lever on the right of the cone of sight ( it is at left on the Series II) , then cock the curtain shutter by means of the speed wheel (after one speed has been selected).
Because the curtain reveals a slot (more or less wide depending on the desired speed ) during cocking ,this is not possible ( blocked) when the mirror is raised . The cocking is therefore possible after the mirror is in low position .
Once the picture is taken ,we must move to the next . But the counter is blocked ...
To unlock it, the button near it must be pushed down and the film can be advanced .

Other significant differences with the Series II model : the lens here is fixed , while the standard lens of its successor may be replaced by a small telephoto lens Bausch & Lomb 140 mm f 6.3 , and there is no thread for cable release in the release button.

If he is accustomed to another Graflex SLR , the photographer may be baffled by the miniaturization of the device and its controls , yet in use, he will appreciate its discretion.
