Chronology of cameras Ihagee

The Exa is a bottom of the range and very common reflex camera. Ihagee had developed and produced from 1936 to 1950 the small-size Kine Exakta I and II. In 1950 they launched two new series: the Exakta Varex and the Exa. In 1970 Ihagee is absorbed by the VEB Pentacon Dresden founded in 1968.
According to Maurizio Frizziero  website exakta.org site. this version is the sixth and last of the first generation Exa manufactured from 1950 to 1962.
From 1962 until 1987 there was a second generation of Exa (Exa I to Exa Ic). Meanwhile, a line of Exa II (Exa II, Exa IIa, IIb and finally Exa 500) was developed from 1960 to 1969.
The first generation has seen the production of 257,761 cameras; the second of 802,864 cameras and the Exa II represents a production of 307,792 units. (*)
The version presented here is recognizable by the front panel in front of the viewfinder.
This model is therefore the last to not have a number after Exa (Exa I, Exa II). The body is numbered 574610.
For the rest, the device is identical in appearance to the models that preceded it
it has its typical speed lever (in line), of the shutter and the ability to change the viewfinder (including the focusing lens) and the lens.
This one has a grid  type focusing screen, interchangeable.
The Exa will remain in history as the archetype of the SLR accessible to everyone.
