Yashica Samurai X 4.0

We are told that It was designed by an ergonomist, but it is quite clumsy to use. It must be held in the right hand, with the left hand over the top operating the zoom; it is even worse in the horizontal (portrait) position. (Kyocera  subsequently brought out the Samurai Z-L (3X) for left handed users!)

In addition to the usual flash modes It has a continuous shooting mode, the facility to take 5 frames in rapid succession, and it has a diopter adjustable viewfinder. It does not have a 'B' setting. The handbook says the frame size is 24 mm x 17 mm, but this is commonly quoted as 24 mm x 18 mm.

It was no doubt an expensive camera, but It was never going to appeal to serious photographers, or to ladies wanting something small and light to put in a bag. The 24 mm x 18 mm size was always disappointing in big enlargements, particularly in transparencies. What were they thinking?
