Chronology of cameras Agfa Ansco
Agfa and Ansco joined forces in the American market between 1928 and 1943. Agfa-Ansco, a subsidiary of I.G. Farbenindustrie in the United States infiltrated by Nazi spies (as reported on the evening of August 5, 1951), was absorbed as enemy property, and Ansco continued its activities independently.
During this period, some models were marketed under the Agfa Ansco or Ansco brand. This partnership is the reason why one can find Agfa cameras labeled "Made in USA."
This Box 120 camera was manufactured between 1935 and 1941. During these years, the front face was modified several times. The light-colored front with the Agfa logo under the lens dates back to the early 1940s. It's a dual-format camera as it has two non-actinic viewfinders on the back. The markers in the viewfinders correspond to the framing for the two formats.
Inside the back, there are three patent numbers associated with this model: 1,489,190 protecting the internal partition of the camera, 1,511,160 protecting the film winding key, and 1,524,081 protecting the shutter. All three patents were filed in 1924 and 1925 by Carl Bornmann of Binghamton, New York, USA, for Ansco.
There is another Ansco camera with the same name, but it's slightly newer (1948).
