Chronology of cameras Carl Zeiss Jena

The Carl Zeiss company was founded in Jena (pronounced Iena) in 1846 to develop and manufacture optics for various purposes, including the famous Planar lenses launched in 1896 and Tessar lenses launched in 1902. In that same year, 1902, Carl Zeiss acquired the very young company PALMOS AG, founded just 2 years earlier, thus entering the production of photographic equipment. This continued until 1909, when the Palmos branch was integrated into the new company ICA, while Carl Zeiss continued its traditional manufacturing of optics.

The presented camera is made of metal, placing it between 1904 and 1909.

It is of Klapp type with tensioners. It features a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens of 4.5/150 mm. The shutter is a focal plane curtain shutter ranging from 1/15 to 1/1000 second.

The viewfinder on this example seems to have been added later as it does not correspond to anything known on this model.
