Chronology of cameras Sears
Sears is to the United States what Manufrance was to France.
Following the same principle, a significant portion of what Sears sold was manufactured by other brands. The name "Tower" frequently appears in product names. This can be explained by comparing the brand's logo and historical photos of the company. The logo depicts the tower that dominated the Sears buildings in Chicago. In 1969, Sears decided to consolidate all its Chicago employees in a single building and had the tallest skyscraper in the United States (and the world at the time) constructed, known as the Sears Tower, which has since been renamed the Willis Tower.
The Tower 39 Automatic 35 is a Mamiya 35EEF (which was the first Japanese camera with built-in flash according to Mc Keown).
At that time, Sears seemed to love rectangular cameras. This one is more serious than the Camflash 127. It is made of metal, very solid, very well finished.
It has a seleniumcell . Its viewfinder is very clear, thanks to a projection, an orange frame delimits the field of view. A needle moves on an aperture scale On the front face, in front of the cell windows (one of them must be false) a slider allows to set the sensitivity of the film. The other slider is used to indicate the opening. At the end of this scale, in red, is inscribed "Auto". This position is that of the automatism of the exposure.
The anterior ring of the lens allows to adjust the distance. Under the lens, a small slider allows you to change the speed and above a small window shows the figure of the speed retained.
On the back door there is a computation table for the distance range of the flash. A large part of the back is occupied by the flash battery door. On the soleplate, a zipper ejects the flash bulb.
