Agfa Billy I

Traduction de Manuel M

The lineage of Billy is confused, because some models exist with the same name before or after the second world war. As there is of Billy I and II, and even of III, one finds oneself with I after II, even of III etc…
For to lose its German language there! and still, one does not speak here about Billy Record.

This Billy I is a model of post-war period, and it is even probably the last evolution of the line of I. It is recognized easily by its bellows with material resembling oil-cloth. I had already evoked this texture at the time of the presentation of Billy Record II of 1951.

The case which accompanies this camera brings out an odour of liquorice (!), whereas the camera itself smells… ozone. The case is not that done for this camera because it makes impossible the viewfinding, although with its basis is registered “Billy 8027 Made in Germany”. Even the seller lost himself among Billys.

The first characteristic of this camera is its viewfinder, whose strange form is perfectly useless… except if one supposes that his widened basis mask the points of fixing of the viewfinder of the 1950.model.

Another is that I did not find the shutter release, not immediately. It should be said that in the spirit, it is a little like the trigger of certain olds Bessa, but which it is inside the flap. On the picture, one distinguishes it at the joint from the flap and the body from the camera. It is a pull knob with… pushing.
