Chronology of cameras Astre
The Chambre Noire Folding Modèle I (i) is a horizontal camera made of waxed walnut, with copper fittings and a leather bellows. The bellows have a long extension, and the front part is maneuverable through a double rack and pinion mechanism.
Its thickness doesn't allow for folding with the shutter and lens in place. For that purpose, one would need to opt for model K.
It is available in three sizes: 9 x 12 (No. 525), 13 x 18 (No. 526), or 18 x 24 (No. 527), and could be delivered in varnished mahogany (No. 531, 532, and 533).
This brand belonged to Maurice Ledoux, the successor of EM. Target and Ledoux.
The Buckler lens brand was owned by Target.
