Minolta Hi-Matic AF

The Hi-Matic AF is the first Autofocus Minolta. It uses Honeywell's Visitronic system, as well as the Konica C35AF . Keeping the olds Hi-Matic's square form factor, it is made of plastic in stead of aluminum.

This camera is between two ages: shutter cocking and rewinding are still manual while the camera has more electronics and cannot run without batteries.

No exposure indications in the viewfinder, there are only four focus symbols lit by a red LED to indicate the focusing distance and two frames: one to indicate parallax and one for the focusing area. These frames are printed on a lens inside the viewfinder and are not very easy to read.

The "Focus lock" slider under the shutter button makes the camera focus and lock on what is vised. There is no way to change this setting once done, you have to shoot at this distance! The AF system focuses only once the shutter button is pressed, the lens goes "back" at the calculated distance to focus and only shutter cocking brings it back.

The camera has an "ever ready" sack and a big plastic cover that covers the lens, finder, AF system and shutter. The sack has a pad of foam that goes on the camera's top maybe to protect the winder lever.
