Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon
This 9 x 12 aluminium folding plate camera was initially developed by Ica in 1912 and produced under the same name.
By merging various companies in 1926, Zeiss Ikon had taken over and continued production, often as is, of certain products from these former factories. This was the case with the Trona which has enjoyed a long life, almost without any modification.
The one presented here was therefore built and marketed by Zeiss Ikon, from 1927 to 1934 under its original name, Trona. As with Ica previously, it is built on the same body as the Maximar (there was an Ica Maximar). Here too, the bellows features double extension after manual unfolding, focusing is performed via a rack.
According to the year of manufacture of its Tessar lens (1928), one can deduce that this Trona specimen (model 210/1) is after 1928/29. The 210/1 U variant corresponds to the assembly of a Compur shutter and a 4.5 / 13.5 cm Tessar lens. Other variants exist with Novar, Hekla, Dominar lenses and Automat X or XI, Klio shutters. One can also find Tronas in the 6.5 x 9 cm format.
Whether during the Ica period or during the Zeiss Ikon period, it is difficult to determine what differentiates the Maximar from the Trona.
The model and its code can be found on the body, under the handle.
