Chronology of cameras Bardin
The gate-strut folding camera were called "handheld and tripod-mounted." For tripod use, there are two nuts with the Congress thread pitch that could also accommodate a handle held by hand. Aiming was possible thanks to a removable viewfinder that could be adjusted according to whether the shot was taken in portrait or landscape orientation. Like many removable accessories, it has been lost here. Precise framing was achievable on a ground glass mounted in a frame replacing the one containing the plate.
It is noticeable that the lens is not original, as indicated by the still-visible screw holes. Normally, the optical block includes the lens, a pre-cocking rotary shutter (with speed variation controlled by a notch limiting the active part of the spring), and an aperture with holes on a disk placed between the lenses.
The dovetail joints indicate handmade craftsmanship and a manufacturing date prior to 1900.
