Chronology of cameras Barbier et Thierry

Barbier and Thierry, located at 37-39 rue Crozatier, Paris XII°, were distributors and not manufacturers. It is quite rare to come across a camera with the small identification plate of this distributor, yet their 1927 catalog mentions a significant number of folding cameras widely used at that time.

It is not easy to pinpoint the differences between the Modèle F and the Modèle D. It seems that the Modèle F only accepts plate holders; though uncertain, as this specimen was accompanied in its original case by a roll film back. Vertical shift (no horizontal shift) is adjusted either by a micrometer screw or a simple locking screw for the cradle, as seen in the example on this page. The lenses of the Model F are generally less luminous than those of the Modèle D.

This 9 x 12 folding camera "Modèle F," as described in the 1927 catalog, is quite conventional in its design but robustly constructed. Once set up, the struts rigidify the structure satisfactorily. It automatically locks focus at infinity (horizon) by engaging with a strip of chrome-plated steel. To access other distances indicated in meters on the ivory plate (1, 1.5, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10), one presses the strip to stretch the bellows using the clamps.

It was sold for 315 Francs with its Hermagis lens, equivalent to approximately 180 euros today.
