Chronology of cameras Sears
Sears is to the United States what Manufrance was to France.
Following the same principle, a significant portion of what Sears sold was manufactured by other brands. The name "Tower" frequently appears in product names. This can be explained by comparing the brand's logo and historical photos of the company. The logo depicts the tower that dominated the Sears buildings in Chicago. In 1969, Sears decided to consolidate all its Chicago employees in a single building and had the tallest skyscraper in the United States (and the world at the time) constructed, known as the Sears Tower, which has since been renamed the Willis Tower.
The Sears Tower 10B is part of the same siblings as the Mamiya 4B and the Rank Mamiya, only the label on the top cover differentiates these triplets.
Two different inscriptions have existed over time for the Sears Tower 10B label: first '"Tower 10B" then "Sears 10B".
Like its brothers, the Tower 10B is a rangefinder with a selenium light meter which gives it the advantage of battery free operation. The sensitivity of the film is adjustable from 10 to 400 ISO.
The fixed lens has a Seikosha central shutter. Besides long time exposure (B), shutter speeds range from 1/4 to 1/250.
These triplets take their serial number in the same numbering sequence. Minor changes of definition have taken place over the years, this concerns:
- the inscription on the lens which is first "Mamiya-Kominar" then "Mamiya-Sekor".
- the release button for rewinding the film, which initially has a red line afterwards replaced by a red dot.
They were the basis for the design of cameras in the South Korean peninsula: the Rank Aldis and the Kobica 35 BC.
