Chronology of cameras Apparatebau und Kamerafabrik

The cameras from Apparatebau und Kamerafabrik were distributed by various companies, including Hama, well-known for its photographic laboratory equipment. Hamaphot was established in Dresden in 1923 by Martin Hanke and initially specialized in wholesale distribution of photographic accessories and laboratory equipment. In 1945, the company relocated to Bavaria and diversified its production, including the manufacture of cameras. This explains why there are advertisements associating these models (or others) with Hama. However, there is no specific indication on the camera to confirm that it was distributed by Hama or any other company (Porst was a major distributor of Apparatebau und Kamerafabrik cameras according to McKeown).

These cameras are 6 x 6 format and use 120 film. They are made of bakelite, sometimes tinted. The lens and shutter are mounted on a screw-in tube. The shutter release button is located on the top between an accessory shoe and a viewfinder forming a conical protrusion. The last model produced showed some simplifications in the accessory shoe and tube design. All other models appear to be based on the same mold.

__________

The brand produced a range of several models using the same body and varying a few rare characteristics or aesthetic aspects, such as color.

This Hexi model has a single speed and offers both bulb mode and a choice between two apertures. The lens is called Tricomat.
