Chronology of cameras Samsung
Already present in the photography market since the late 1980s, the Samsung Group also had significant expertise in the consumer electronics sector by 2000. Consequently, Samsung quickly ventured into the development of digital cameras.
Unfortunately, the brand lacked recognition among photographers and was unable to generate significant interest in its camera models. Efforts to collaborate with established camera or lens manufacturers failed to achieve the desired results, as Samsung remained too focused on its own approach. Despite offering cameras with innovative features, sales never took off. In 2015, Samsung withdrew from the camera market, shifting its focus to smartphones (in addition to more traditional markets like home appliances).

The Samsung SF-A, released in November 1984, represents the first camera resulting from the collaboration between Samsung and Minolta that does not bear the Minolta brand in addition to the Samsung brand. The indication to the right of the lens likely explains the origin of the model name: Self Focus - Auto Flash.
While not identical, the Samsung SF-A undeniably shares a family resemblance with the Minolta FS-E (Freedom I). The main differences include:
- The grip bump on the camera, which is less pronounced on the SF-A but features a pattern that improves handling.
- The position of the push button that opens the lens cover and powers on the camera.
- Under the camera bodies, the "KOREA" marking on the SF-A replaces the "JAPAN" marking found on the FS-E (Freedom I), indicating South Korean production.
The SF-A can be encountered (albeit quite rarely) with a date back, taking on the reference SF-A Quartz Date.
In the early stages of production, the three-star Samsung logo was positioned to the left of the viewfinder window, and the reference SF-A was at the bottom right on the front of the camera. Later, the positions of this Samsung logo and the SF-A reference were swapped.
As indicated by the advertising from that era, the SF-A was initially offered at the recommended retail price of 99,900 KRW with the slogan: "Cute features, cute price too." At the bottom of this advertisement, the Minolta brand is written in Hangeul (Korean alphabet) alongside the Samsung brand.
