Chronology of cameras Clement

Louis Clément (Établissements L. Clément, 8, Impasse Guéménée, Paris IV) was an optician known for his Triolor, Claror, Sextor, Texor, and Nelor lenses. A company change announcement from 1919 reveals Louis's first name, which is not mentioned in advertisements. It also states that in 1919, Louis Clément, optician, owned a general partnership named Clément et Cie at 75 Rue de Turenne, which he sold to his associate at the end of 1919. This company then became known as Rex, Brazier et Cie.

Advertisements from 1926 to 1928 present the company as the Manufacture Française d'objectifs anastigmats, d'appareils photographiques et de jumelles à prismes de haute précision (French Manufacturer of Anastigmatic Lenses, Photographic Cameras, and High-Precision Prism Binoculars), showcasing the ERCE film camera.
Earlier and later advertisements mention only the lenses (Optique et Mécanique de haute précision - High-Precision Optics and Mechanics).

__________

The construction of this unique model within the brand combines stamped sheet metal (back and part of the front), aluminum (lens mount, folding front), wood (rear body), and leather (bellows, covering, and handle). Most parts are numbered: in this specific case, the number is 179.

The bellows are manually extendable, and as always in such cases, focusing is done using a notch marker on the left side, with graduations marked at 2, 3, 7, and infinity. The covering is made of thick, coarse-grained leather, deeply grooved, and features the inscription "Erce" in a diamond shape on its upper part. This is a homophonic acronym created from the initials R and C. While the connection between C and Clément is certain, the reason for the R remains unknown.

The lens is a Claror 6.3/105 mm anastigmat, and the shutter is a Stella, featuring a monogram with "A" and "G" at its center.
