Chronology of cameras Futura
Futura cameras were created by Fritz KUHNERT . They were made in Freiburg.
Futura "S" is chronologically the third in a small family of four models. Production ceased in 1959.
Its original shape makes it quickly leaving anonymity.
This is a camera with the rangefinder coupled to the viewfinder. The basis of the rangefinder image is rectangular, nice size and dew. The rangefinder is actuated directly by the focus ring , which is fixed to the housing . Lens are not fitted with rangefinder cam.
It is fully mechanical and manual .
The lens is interchangeable . It has a specific 33.8 mm screw mount.
Several standard lens have been proposed, as the Frilon f 1.5, the Evar 2/50 mm and the Elor f2.8
A range of lenses from the 1.4/35 to the 5.6/90 mm mm was available.
All were labeled Futura, except a 2.8/45 mm Xenar from Schneider .
The shutter is a Synchro Compur with speeds from 1 second to 1/500th + B.
There is a flash sync socket on the front. The self timer is cocked by a lever on top of the housing.
To operate the self timer : first cock the shutter . Press and release the lever at 120 ° of travel. Take the picture. On my specimen , the delay is about 18 seconds.
Note that when the shutter is not cocked , the rotation of the lever reaches 180 ° and therefore has no effect on shooting . In the accessory shoe , there is a small three positions metal slider for reminding of the film type in use .
The body has a serial number starting with "S".
Like all Futura , the "S" is a very nice unit, well built and has a very good reputation for reliability. It is particularly heavy for its size .
