This camera, as a direct evolution of the Zenit S, features a stamped cover completely redesigned and better enveloping the controls.
It has two other improvements:
- A cocking lever with frame counter.
- A self timer on the front of the type that will be fitted on the other models later on.

Generally delivered with the Industar -50 f: 3.5 / 50mm, but you can find it with the Helios-44 f: 2 / 58mm.
Production from 1960 to 1962 is about 80 000 copies.
