After the RTS, follows, in 1979, Contax 139 Quartz, which is the first camera to take advantage of the application of quartz. Reproduced hereafter, some lines of a promotional magazine dedicated to the camera:
“After having revolutionized clock making technology, quartz is introduced now into the domain of photography. Nothing more normal because the photography and the measure of time are closely connected. The extraordinarily precise impulses that this tiny crystal generates order all the functions dependant of the time, on the Contax 139 Quartz, the first camera of the world to endorse the precision of quartz.
Thus, the shutter speeds and all the sequences of operation of the camera are practically free from errors. Better still, this system of high precision controlled by quartz is placed in an ultra compact and light body.
Among the other characteristics of this camera, let us note the double system of measurement of the exposure, on the one hand, the measure of the luminosity through the lens for a normal exposure and on the other hand, the measure of the luminosity reflected on the surface of film for photography of the flash, which allows a “total control of the exposure inside the camera.
Last-born child of the system Contax, the Contact 139 Quartz invites you to penetrate in this unique world which is that of Contax photography.”
It should be noted also that the sizes of 139 Quartz do one of most compact of them and of the lightest reflex cameras of its time. (135 x 85.5 x 50mm; 500 grams)
Presented at the time of Kina 78 as a pre-production under the name of 139, it taken its final name only at the time of its commercial launch, in 1979. It positions between the 137 and the RTS. This 139 profits from the TTL measure to the flash.
