Chronology of cameras Ross

The Ross Keros camera was manufactured in Leeds by Kershaw. It first appeared in the 1912 Ross catalog.

It was a plate camera offered at the time in two formats: ¼ plate (82.5 x 108 mm) and 9 x 12 cm in a double chassis. The body is made of luxurious mahogany covered with Morocco leather. The internal walls are blackened and polished.

The Keros offered at the time a set of technical possibilities rarely encountered in similar type cameras from competitors.

These included:

- A rotating back allowing for choosing between portrait or landscape format,
- Double vertical lens shift (up to approximately 57 mm),
- Double bellows extension,
- Lens tilt along the optical axis,

And most importantly, the ability to use a short focal length lens by tilting the upper part of the camera body upwards and tilting the lens board supporting the extension rail downwards. This was to prevent the two parts in question from encroaching into the field covered by the lens. The shortest focal lengths offered by Ross were around 75 mm.
All of these features made it an expensive camera that sold poorly and is therefore rare today. Advertising for this camera ceased in 1918.

The following lens and shutter variants were offered at the time.

Homocentric 6.8/125 mm Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes

The Newman & Sinclair "NS Accurate" pneumatic shutter was introduced in 1914.
The Ilex and Optimo shutters were also introduced around 1916.
