Chronology of cameras Cord

Contrary to appearances, this camera has nothing to do with the Fex-Indo establishments of Lyon, nor does it have any connection to its predecessor, the Superior.

The book "FEX, la photo toute simple" seems to be the only source of information on this camera.

In his wanderings, Fritz Kaftanski, after patenting and having the Superior built in Czechoslovakia, arrives in Paris with the molds in his possession. Why did he contact Cord, a manufacturer of low-quality cardboard box cameras? It's yet another mystery!

The only difference from the Superior is the shape of the viewfinder, which has the same dimensions at the front and back on this model, whereas the Superior has a wider section at the back than at the front. It's also worth noting that the Cord has a tripod socket with a Kodak thread, consisting of a metal insert embedded in the bakelite.

The molds were entrusted to MIOM for an initial (and final) series. Some of the facades, obtained through photo-chemistry, were placed on cardboard box cameras. However, it seems Cord never marketed this innovative model. Why? Another mystery! Considering the rise of FEX in Lyon thanks to bakelite cameras, one might think Cord missed an opportunity.

Indeed, after Kaftanski met Bouchetal de la Roche in Lyon, the latter took over the molds, which MIOM had kept likely due to unpaid bills.

The early Superfex models closely resemble the Cord, except for the disappearance of the tripod socket. The back bears the inscription "PAT. 58375" from the Superior to the early Superfex models.
