The J of M645J means Junior. In 1979, this camera came after the M645 standard and the M645 1000S.
He was proposed like a cheap alternative with his two elders. To reduce the cost, slow speeds (in the seconds) were removed and the mirror cannot be blocked any more in raised position. The socket synchro “high speed” (FP) does not exist any more. A button of release disappeared.

On the other hand of the disappearances, this version is lighter and has glass-ground of the 1000S. The viewfinder remains interchangeable and many accessories of the two other models can be mounted on this one.
