Chronology of cameras Graflex
As for the Century 35, this is a model derived from the Kowa Kallo range ; Graflex seems to have followed the model evolution of its supplier.
A decal with the words " Made for Graflex Inc. by Kowa Optical Works in Nagoya, Japan" stuck inside of the back also leaves no doubt about the origin of the unit.
However, this specimen with a f2 aperture does not seem to have an exact equivalent in Kowa which proposed the Kallo 140 and 180 with respectively a 1.4 and 1.8 aperture.
Japanese cameras of the year 50/60 are generally well built. This Graflex is no exception with over 800 grams and a very square design that give the impression that it was milled from a block of metal.
The cocking lever while rested is completely flush with the top surface so as not to protrude either on the back or on the top. The rewind crank has been located under the bottom to strengthen the massive and smooth aspect and the top cover. Finally, the large eye of the lens is well consistent with the overall design to provide a balanced set inspiring strength.
The viewfinder has automatic parallax correction by moving the collimated frame according to the focus distance .
The Copal shutter seems to have well withstood the years of activity and inactivity.
It would only lack a light cell , but it was for Century 35 NE models , derived from Kowa Kallo 181 and 281.
