Chronology of cameras Graflex

The Compact Graflex, reflex camera with non swivel interchangeable back, was designed in two formats: 3.25 X 5.5 " , from 1915 to 1924 and 5 X 7" from 1916 to 1925. This presented specimen, built around 1916, is a 3.25 X 5.5 "  format called postcard.

This unit has some peculiarities :
Unlike other SLR models of the same brand, the mirror , too short, is not completely obstructing the camera chamber when it is down for the framing and the cocking by selecting a curtain slot . A second curtain, independent from the main , performs this operation , thus avoiding a veil over the film. At the triggering time, successively the mirror goes up , the secondary curtain goes downdown (disappears) , the main curtain falls revealing a slot more or less large and more or less rapidly (depending on settings ) .
For the storage, the optical block with the bellows pushes the bottom of the mirror backwards, which greatly reduces the volume of the entire folded assembly.

Several backs were available, for double frame (with plate or film sheets), for 12 shots magazine, for the 12 views film packs and for special Graflex rollfim, No. 52 (6 views) , according to the format of the unit.
