Chronology of cameras Gallus
This camera was reserved for a very specialized use. it served only to the photograph of oscilloscope screens. The cone of this equipment only fits on circular shape oscilloscope screen with a diameter of 9 cm .
It is built on the basis of Gallus Derby and adopts the same film format, but it offers only one shutter speed which is not marked on the camera ( an arrow on the button indicates the direction of rotation to cock the shutter ) . Another curious little detail , the bellows of the classical model is still present, but completely folded. He has no use since the plate which carries the cone is attached to the camera body . However, it provides a seal against any light ingress into the camera body. The Saphir Boyer lens has a short focal length without focus adjustment and without diaphragm .
To trigger the shutter a cable release it required . There is no viewfinder , the operator looking to the screen of the oscilloscope through the small green-yellow window attached to the cone to determine the good timing for the signal to be photographed.
Witnesses indicate that this camera was still used in the early sixties by the Radio Télédiffusion Française (RTF). The main television transmitter was located on the Eiffel Tower, and every month , specific signals (for the setting of technical equipment) were emitted in the direction of the relay stations . Technicians photographing the test charts issued to attest to their good reception.
