Chronology of cameras Federal
Traduction de Sylvain Halgand.
Often with reading the geographical origin of the American cameras of years 40-50, I understand as being town of New York of the cameras manufactured in the state of New York. Here, not of possible confusion, the camera was precisely manufactured in Brooklyn and the box of the camera mentions “Federal of Brooklyn ” (what is a little shorter than the complete name of the mark which appears behind of the camera and the flash!).
It is a plastic camera (bakelite?) having some resemblances to our Kaftax. The Fed Flash makes it possible to obtain 8 photographs (4 X 6,5 cm) on film 127. The lens (fix-focus) is one 64 mm (Ultar lens), of which I am unaware of the aperture. The shutter (type “A” Flash-Matic) is synchronized with the flash.
The button of the shutter release is particularly long.
It seems that the back was initially designed to close by pressure, but that finally a hinge was added on a side. This one has a double articulation to compensate for the thickness of the moulding.
