Chronology of cameras Graflex

The size and weight of this camera make it a reflex camera easily freehand usable.

Its format , 3.25 x 4.25 inches ( 8 x 10.5 cm on the film ) , uncommon today , gives an image close to both the large and medium format.

Its pivoting back (RB Revolving Back) and its wide range of speeds (24, from 1/ 10 to 1 /1000) are easing its use.

It can be used with different backs : double-sided holders for plate and film sheets, magazine back for 12 plates or film sheets, Back for 12 exposures film packs, special rollfilm back Kodak No. 51 for 6 exposures, and post-war made back (the 2nd ) for 120 rollfilm format " 22" (6 x 6 cm) and "23" (6 x 9).

The bellows has only a small amplitude ( elongation of approximately 6 cm ), the choice of the focal length is limited from 155 to 215 mm , which prevents the use of a wide angle . The latter restriction is valid for the reflex Graflex range , the brand has not proposed any suitable retrofocus lens because of the mirror of the reflex system ( a normal one , not retrofocus with a slightly smaller focal length, would enter more deeply inside the housing and would prohibit movement of the mirror) . On this specimen, the focal length is 6 3/8 " , or 162 mm .
