The name "Karomat 36" was used for sales in the United States; elsewhere, it was known as the "Karat 36". Unlike the earlier Karat models, it no longer utilized Karat cassettes but instead used standard 35 mm film in a cartridge (135). Consequently, a rewind button was added, occupying the space where the depth of field table was previously located.
The peculiar foldable film advance lever, functioning in an unconventional manner, remained a distinctive feature.
