Chronology of cameras Certo
There is some confusion surrounding the name of this model. Indeed, it is sometimes called the Certo-Matic Auto, as the word "Auto" corresponds only to one setting position on the lens barrel, aligned with the model name. The other position corresponds to the B exposure setting.
To manufacture the Certo-Matic, Certo started with the Certo-Phot, modifying its top cover to integrate a light meter. The shutter release button is now surrounded by a ring indicating the desired aperture. There are only three possible choices: 8, 11, or 16. The light meter needle indicates the corresponding shutter speed for the chosen aperture and ambient light. This speed is automatically adjusted and seems to vary between 1/25 and 1/100.
This camera was also sold by Wirgin under the name Electro Auta.
