Chronology of cameras Contessa
The Contessa brand is visible under the flap, while the name Countess (Comtesse in English) can be read on the back of the camera. The distance scale in feet (which appears to be handmade), along with the Houghton Ensign lens and shutter, indicate usage in Great Britain. The original camera is equipped with a German lens and shutter.
A pinion and rack system on one side allows for vertical shift. Two sliding blades held by two screws provide horizontal shift.
It is worth noting that the viewfinder, normally installed at the top of the aluminum arch, is absent in this example.
