Chronology of cameras Erko Fotowerke
There is not much information on the Erko Fotowerke Radewensky & Koszuszek company. Apparently one of the founders (W. Radewensky) also founded the company Weeka in 1914, that later would become Welta. It is worth noticing that Welta is from the same German town as Erko: Freital. The Erko Zweiverschluss is very similar to the Welta Dubla, and this particular camera matches the listed features (by McKeown) of the Welta produced in 1924. It is thus very likely that the camera was produced by Welta, although it bears the Erko logo on the side and its name on the side handle. So it is possible that Erko did not make cameras but only rebranded Welta cameras.
The camera is of high quality. The casing is made of wood but the bed is solid metal. It has triple extension bellows and front rack focusing over a lateral scale. At the top there is a folding Newton finder, and a brilliant finder on the front standard.
The focal plane shutter is similar to the Welta Dubla. It has controls for slit width and spring tension (both with numerical scales), delivering speeds from 1/5 to 1/2000 seconds plus Z. The central shutter is a compound F. Deckel Compur with instantaneous speeds from 1 to 1/200 seconds plus Z and D.
The lens is a Hugo Meyer & Co Görlitz Doppel-Anastigmat Helioplan of 135 mm of focal length and maximum aperture of 4.5. The front standard has geared vertical and horizontal movements for perspective control.
