Chronology of cameras AgfaPhoto

AgfaPhoto is written on a hastily attached sticker on the front of the camera. Below it is indicated that it was manufactured by plawa. To understand who does what, the best way is to read the history of AgfaPhoto.

The camera is quite ordinary, probably of average quality.

__________

The company AgfaPhoto GmbH was created in 2004, when Agfa got rid of its consumer business. The new company's activity is to license the use of Agfa's image and name (more precisely AgfaPhoto) for cameras.

A press release, dated September 7, 2006, announces that plawa (plawa-feinwerktechnik GmbH & Co.KG) has obtained the exclusive license from AgfaPhoto Holding GmbH, Cologne, to use the name on digital cameras.

As of 2020, the following can be read about the company Plawa:
"plawa-feinwerktechnik GmbH & Co.KG, based in Uhingen, Germany, has been manufacturing and importing consumer goods and exporting them to wholesalers and retailers worldwide for over 40 years. We offer a wide range of high-quality products from the fields of digital electronics and photo-technology. Our product range focuses on digital photography and photographic accessories.

Exclusive distributor "Polaroid" in Europe - brand license for Asia
The exclusive distribution agreement for the Polaroid brand covers all products in the digital and analog photography sectors. This includes digital cameras, digital photo frames, digital printers, digital and analog instant cameras, and analog films. The distribution areas include Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and other Eastern European countries. The collaboration with the former licensee, Global ISL, ended in November 2010. Following the restructuring, plawa has been the exclusive distributor of the new European Polaroid licensee since July 2011 and holds an exclusive brand license for the regions of Asia and Southeast Asia.
The company is on its way to becoming a future consumer electronics company. In order to further promote this development, the areas of international sales, marketing, quality assurance, and service are being expanded on the Uhingen site. In 2008, a new service center was created and made operational. In the same year, plawa photo.digital (HK) Limited in Hong Kong was founded as a 100% subsidiary of plawa. The Hong Kong site will lead sales in Asia and Oceania, as well as international customer service."

So what about the AgfaPhoto brand?
If we look a little further on the plawa website, we find: "AgfaPhoto was used under license from Agfa-Gevaert NV & Co. KG or Agfa-Gevaert NV until 31.08.2011. Neither Agfa-Gevaert NV & Co KG nor Agfa-Gevaert NV manufactured this product or provided warranty or support. For information on service, support, and warranty, please contact the distributor or manufacturer. Contact: AgfaPhoto Holding GmbH, www.agfaphoto.com. Products presented after the termination of the brand license agreement on August 31, 2011, are commercially purchased products on the free global market."

It is therefore learned that plawa no longer has this license since 2011. It appears that AgfaPhoto GmbH now operates the brand itself and distributes cameras under the name AgfaPhoto.
