Chronology of cameras Butcher
According to the description in the 1914 Butcher catalog, the Maxim Box series is made of mahogany and covered in Morocco leather. The metal parts are enameled in black. They have two apertures, f/11 and f/22. The No 1 is a 6 x 6, the No 2 is a 6 x 9, the No 3 is a 6.5 x 11 cm. The No 4 is 8 x 11 cm.
However, this Maxim No 4 contradicts the 1914 catalog. It is likely that the model evolved over its history while retaining the same name. On this specimen, the apertures are adjusted by pivoting the perforated plate. There seem to be four different apertures (numbered from 8 to 32) and a "cover" position to protect the lens. The adjacent lever switches between the T (time exposure) and instantaneous modes.
The right side of the camera can be removed for loading and unloading film.
