Chronology of cameras Lumiere

The Elax is a folding camera of the Klapp type known for its compact size. It's designed to use 127 film.

Its distinctive feature is the presence of a metal curtain shutter, allowing it to achieve speeds as fast as 1/1000. Slow shutter speeds are also available.

The film advance button (or lever, depending on the specific model) simultaneously cocks the shutter and updates the frame counter for the exposed frames. In some versions, there is an inactive red window at the back, which may or may not be covered by a swiveling cover.

The camera is covered with leather, and most of the metal parts are painted black, except for the polished trim.

Focusing is achieved by rotating the front lens element of the Berthiot Flor 3.5/50 mm lens. There is a semi-integrated viewfinder on the camera. It's rumored that this viewfinder may have been developed by Leitz, although it's surprising that such a feature wasn't highlighted in marketing materials.

__________

With the Elax, Lumière addresses the high precision camera. It is a small folding struts camera, extra flat. The film winding is coupled to the cocking of the shutter. This shutter is of a particular type with a rigid metal curtain providing an extended range of speeds.
Not having received significant advertising support, the Elax seems to have been in retreat in the Lumière range, also because, perhaps, it was marketed at a high price.
