Let’s sum up the different models of Mat-Reflex.
The manufacturing started in 1960 and ended in 1968. All versions share the following features: interchangeable prisms, built-in diaphragm closing mechanism and instant return mirror.
B: shutter speeds from 1s to 1/1000th plus B.
C: like B, with a light meter
D: like C, with self-timer and slow speeds down to 9s.
B-L: normalized shutter speeds (30-60 etc.) up to 1/1000th
C-L: like B-L, with a light meter
S-L 500: like B, 1/500th max
S-L 1000: like S-L 500, but up to 1/1000th
This model D has wide open framing with a simple focusing screen and a ready-to-fire indicator.
Speeds ranging from 1/30th to 1/1000th on the shutter speed dial. Slow speeds from 1/8th to 1s on the ring that is around the shutter speed dial. Slow speeds from 3 to 9s on the ring that’s around the rewinding knob. The latter ring also set the self-timer; the change from slow speeds to self-timer is achieved by pushing a lever on the left side of the prism.
The camera displayed here is fully functional and has the 1:2.8 50mm Steinheil Auto-Cassaron, which is an entry-level lens.
