The SUPER-NETTEL - New for the 1934 Season:
By its construction type, this new folding camera belongs to the Nettel family, enhanced with new features. However, since it shares some similarities with the Contax, we have chosen to describe it within the category of miniature cameras.
In the Super Nettel 24x36 mm, focusing is entirely automatic thanks to the addition of a rangefinder coupled with the lens. In addition to its improvements, the Super Nettel boasts several characteristics that make it a handheld camera—almost a pocket camera—with easy, reliable, and cost-effective operation.
The Super Nettel is a folding camera but exceptionally sturdy. Its body is constructed from a single cast aluminum block, housing the essential components: the rangefinder, the focal-plane shutter, and two very robust tensioners that automatically bring the lens to its normal position when the bellows is unfolded.
The shutter, of the focal-plane type, is entirely metal, including the curtain. It provides all the instant speeds from 1/5 to 1/1000 seconds, as well as a bulb mode, and can be adjusted with a single button, offering a remarkably smooth operation.
The rangefinder is of a new model that has already proven itself on the Super Ikonta. It is divided into two parts: one fixed to the camera body, the other on the front of the camera, next to the lens. The viewfinder image is very bright, and the superimposition of the rangefinder lines is easily achieved.
The lens, which is not removable, is directly controlled by the rangefinder operation. A depth of field scale is juxtaposed with the distance scale, and auxiliary viewfinders can be used.
Loading the Super Nettel can be done in daylight, using Contax film spools or special magazines, or in a darkroom with unperforated cinema film. Film advancement occurs automatically along with the shutter cocking, and a counter indicates the number of exposed frames at all times.
The operation of the Super Nettel is very rapid, with all the control elements—the rangefinder dial, the shutter cocking button, and the shutter release—located on the top of the camera and thus conveniently positioned under the operator's hand.
The Super Nettel was designed to combine the technical characteristics of several camera models from the brand, allowing it to offer the same precision as a Super Ikonta but in the 24 x 26 mm format. The first model, retrospectively referred to as the Super Nettel I, was manufactured from 1934 to 1939. Its chromed twin was introduced in 1936 and 1937, bearing the name Super Nettel II and the code 537/24.
In 1934, three lens options were available:
- 536/24 K: Carl Zeiss Triotar 3.5/5cm (1480 francs)
- 536/24 L: Carl Zeiss Tessar 3.5/5cm (1585 francs)
- 536/24 P: Carl Zeiss Tessar 2.8/5cm (1760 francs)
To put this into perspective, a Box-Tengor 54/2 camera was priced at 90 francs!
