Chronology of cameras Wuensche
The Victrix was a strut folding camera made by Wünsche between c.1905 and 1909. Along its lifespan it suffered several improvements, mostly on the focal plane shutter derived from patent DE156886 from 1903. The camera was made in polished black wood covered in leather. Front standard with typical knee struts and larger models (13x18) had a geared mechanism for cross and rise on the front standard. A very solid and well-made camera.
The Victrix was distributed in several countries and under different brands, such as Dallmeyer, Ross, Rietzschel and Berthiot. Mackenstein sold it as the first version of the Francia Pliante series VIIIB in 1905.
This specimen corresponds to the model from 1907 for format 9 x 12, according to the maker's catalogues, identifiable by the shutter face commands. The shutter delivers speeds in the range 1/28 to 1/2200 plus Z, from combination of slit width and tension, with separate mechanism for slow and rapid speeds. The lens is a Krauss-Zeiss Unar (which shows it was commercialised in France), with a focal length of 145mm and maximum aperture of 4.7.
