Chronology of cameras Mentor
This camera is based on the Mentor II strut folding camera, and is a custom made modification. It is unclear which company modified the camera, but it was surely made in the UK. This type of the modification was common in the UK before WWII for the press reporters. It adds rigidity to the camera and thus allows for a longer life under heavy use. Similar modifications are seen for other period strut folding cameras, such as the Ica Minimum Palmos or Van Neck Press.
The struts are substituted by a wooden casing, and the front panel is fixed by screws without any movements. This camera is for plate format 9 x 12. The shutter is the Mentor focal plane installed on the Mentor II and III cameras, delivering speeds in the range 1/8 to 1/1300 plus T. The speed table is written in English. The lens is a Goerz Dagor with 18 cm of focal length and maximum aperture of 6.8.
