The idea, good in cartons of the engineers, seductive on the pages of the catalogs, was transformed into a quasi commercial failure.
The technical originality of this reflex camera is that the mirror of return of the image in the viewfinder is fixed. Usually, in this kind of reflex camera mono-lens, the mirror is raised at the time it release, in order to let do the optical ray towards the bottom of the camera, while crossing the shutter, to reach the plane film.
The benefit of not raising the mirror at the time of the release is to avoid generating vibrations of mechanical origin and thus of the blur. A contrario, the optical ray must be able nevertheless to go right towards map-Film to the moment of release. The engineers thus developed a semi-transparent mirror, which makes it possible simultaneously to send the image towards the prism of the viewfinder and the bottom of the camera.
A Cds cell is placed behind the mirror, which makes it possible to measure the light exactly reaching film.
The fact of not having motion of the mirror more made it possible to the engineers of Canon to develop some lenses specific to Pellix. These retrofocus lenses, have the back which penetrates deeply inside the camera. These lenses called FLP were at least two: one 3,5/19 mm and one 2,8/38 mm. The other lens FL could be mounted on Pellix.
All that seems quite positive, but with use its owners complained about the lack of luminosity of the unit.
