Chronology of cameras Colnaghi Dalzini
"The Universal Camera" is a generic name used by Colnaghi, Dalzini & Co, a manufacturer based in Milan, and whose representative in France was Emile Target.
The cameras with this name are either box cameras or detective cameras. They are made of American wood and covered with various types of coatings. The shutter is simple, allowing for time exposure and instantaneous shots, except for cameras in the L series, which have a pneumatic shutter.
They are divided into several series.

The cameras in the L series are the high-end models in the 1900 catalog. They have a central shutter, known as the "American" shutter. The engraving is not very precise, but it looks like a Bausch and Lomb shutter.
The presentation is less refined than for the cameras in the I series since the covering is made of Pégamoïd. The viewfinders are ground glass without being rectifiers. Both models are 9 x 12. Only the second one is offered with close up lens for 1, 3, and 5 meters.
