Chronology of cameras Hasselblad
The Hasselblad Pocket-Kamera was advertised by F.W. Hasselblad (the grandfather of Victor Hasselblad) in his 1905 catalogue only. The camera is of German origin, most probably R. Krügener, although it can’t be found in any of his known catalogues. But the quadrant struts and the front strongly suggest R. Krügener as the maker and was perhaps a specific model made on demand. The nameplate refers to F.W. Hasselblad Automat – according to the catalogue, automat is meant that ‘when it is pressed, the front side, which at the same time constitutes the bottom of the camera, falls down and is held against the camera in a perpendicular position by automatically loading springs’.
It was made for plates in 3 ¼ x 4 ¼ inc. - 8.2 x 10.7cm (it was also made for 9 x 12cm) format. It uses film packs, with a folding back door, or plates to be inserted through a slot at the back top. Six formal models were named according to the shutter/lens combinations. This specimen corresponds to No. 3 (serial no. 98), fitted with Busch Rapid Aplanat f/8 and a Bausch & Lomb Unicum shutter, delivering speeds of 1 to 1/100s plus T and B.
