Chronology of cameras Hasselblad
The Hasselblad Fenix detective camera is a simpler version of the Svenska Express made by Hugo Svensson & Co. (Gothenburg) for F.W. Hasselblad. After court disputes with Swedish camera distributors (including Hasselblad), Svensson started selling his cameras directly in 1902. But Hasselblad continued ordering and distributing several cameras from Svensson.
The Fenix is present in Hasselblad’s catalogues between around 1905 and 1914 and was designed for 12 plates in the 9 x 12 cm format. It has a simple rotary shutter for variable instantaneous and time exposures. The lens is a simple achromatic with variable focus. The body is covered in fabric, and the viewfinders have no frame.
